This is a two-day class. The first day will be an all-day class from 10 am – 4:30 – 5 pm and we will make six different soaps. Day two will begin after lunch at 1 pm. We will make 3 salves on the second day as well as cutting the finished soaps we made the day before.

The soaps will be lye-based soaps with all natural ingredients using the cold process of soap making. We will make between 6 different soaps (time permitting). We will use a variety of natural ingredients so you will be introduced to different types of soaps, such as goats milk soaps, soaps with two different layers, a scrub soap as well as soaps with floral and herbal decorations.
We will make a soap using a tea (chamomile or rose tea), as well as making a soap using infused oils, such dandelion or calendula infused oil. The oils generally take weeks to infuse ahead of time, so we will discuss the preparation of the oils, but I will have them prepared in advance for the class. We will have an overview of the basic herbs you can use and touch on the healing properties these herbs will bring to your soaps and salves.

We will use several different soap molds and discus how you can make your own one-use soap molds as well as wood molds that you can reuse.
We will also make three medicinal salves.

Class Times:
10:00 am – 5 ish on the first day
1 pm – 4:30 on the second day.
Lunch:
The traditional Farm to Table Style Lunch served at other classes will be served on the first day of class. If the class participants wish to meet for brunch somewhere on the second day before class, or have a picnic on the farm before class (bring your own ) we can do that.
Cost:
$250 – Covers all materials. We only ask that you bring glasses/eye protection, full length rubber gloves (like house cleaning gloves) and a face covering for when we stir the Lye into the mixture. Sometimes this creates a rather harsh smell, pending the ingredients. we don’t want this in our eyes on our skin or to breath too much of it. Once the oils are added, the smell goes away, but the mixture is still hot and caustic to the skin until it saponifies (24 hours).
The class will take place in our greenhouse, which is well ventilated and should be a nice temp in Oct or March. It has plenty of table space and sink, making it an ideal spot to host the class.
We will be keeping this class to a small number, most likely no more than 6 students, If you are interested, please register early. Registration requires a $25 deposit. You can either pay this online, or send a check. (address in General Class Details link below)
